Invisalign® First Treatment

What is Invisalign® First Treatment?

Let’s face it, it’s not fun to have teeth that don’t grow in the right place. Invisalign® First Treatment (Invisalign for Kids) allows children whose teeth are still growing to use clear and removable aligners to straighten their teeth.

We may think that children would struggle to have appliances in the mouth, but when they are thin and transparent and can be removed for eating and brushing, there’s no excuse to delay having nice and healthy smiles. In fact, starting orthodontic treatment while baby teeth are still present may be the perfect time for children between the ages of six and ten.

How does Invisalign® First Treatment work?

The teeth are gradually moved in the correct direction during each new set of aligners prescribed by Dr Tania Hetz in her customised treatment plan for each child. Aligners make use of medical-grade plastic material that applies gentle pressure to the teeth to move them. In most cases, children cope really well with the pressure and feel very mild soreness the first few days after they start wearing aligners.

Each set of aligners is worn for 7-14 days before being replaced by the next until the teeth reach their final position. Based on each child’s specific needs and treatment goals, the orthodontist will determine how many aligners and how long treatment will take.

What are the benefits?

The main benefit of Inivsalign® First Treatment is that it prepares the jaws and/or arches for the permanent teeth to grow in, therefore helping eliminate orthodontic problems even before adult teeth appear. This can prevent future worries and extended treatment times.

It also offers children a much more pleasant experience while improving their smiles as they grow. The fact that aligners are removable makes it a lot easier to eat, brush and floss. They are also designed for comfort, which means no discomfort from rubbing brackets or poking wires, with the added benefit of being very discreet.

Should my child have Invisalign® First Treatment?

Whether it’s crowding, spacing, or narrow dental arches, Invisalign® First aligners can fix most cases of teeth straightening issues in growing children, from simple to complex.

During the initial consultation, Dr Tania Hetz will determine whether Invisalign® First Treatment is recommended and how long the treatment may take. After a consultation, x-rays and a 3D scan are taken to create a digital treatment plan and simulation of the desired result.

Will my child need more treatment in future?

Invisalign® First Treatment is an option for Phase 1 treatment. By expanding the arches while the child grows, Invisalign® First Treatment can correct current issues as well as help prevent more serious problems in the future by creating room for incoming teeth. Depending on the complexity of each case, the child may need a Phase 2 treatment once all adult teeth have come through.

How much does Invisalign® First Treatment cost?

The cost for Invisalign® First Treatment is $6800. It includes the required amount of aligners to complete Phase 1, as well as retention methods at the end. Fixed and/or removable retainers are used to keep the child’s teeth in their achieved position while they continue to grow.
