How does Invisalign® treatment for teens work?

As with Invisalign® for adults, Invisalign® for teens straightens the teeth with a series of clear plastic aligners. The whole process is digitally planned, so you can see what’s going to happen as the teeth move. For teens, aligners are very convenient because they can be taken out for food, dates, and social events since they are removable.

Specifically designed for teenagers, Invisalign® Treatment for Teens accommodates the eruption of adult canines, premolars, and molars. 

As an added benefit, Invisalign® treatment for teens can have a colour indicator that shows if the aligners are being worn for the recommended amount of time. 

Since Invisalign® aligners can be removed easily for eating and brushing, teenagers can keep up with their home care routine while wearing them.

Your teen can practise sports or music instruments without having to worry about their aligners interfering with their practice. Additionally, the Dental Monitoring app can be used to monitor their progress from distance, which eliminates the need for them to miss school to attend adjustment appointments.

How long does the treatment take?

The simple answer is: “It depends.” It can take as little as six months for patients to see results from Invisalign aligners in simpler cases. In general, Invisalign® treatments are usually completed within 12 to 18 months.

Is Invisalign® right for my teen?

While Invisalign® may be the best option for some teenagers, we may also recommend braces in some cases. It is best to schedule a consultation with our specialist orthodontist and find out which treatment would be appropriate for your teen.

Is the treatment painful?

In the same way as with braces, some patients will experience a few days of mild tooth soreness after each new set of aligners. This is normal and indicates that the teeth are gradually moving in the right direction. The soreness will gradually go away a few days after each new set of aligners is worn.
